How we make money
NJ Cost Guide is free. When you choose to request quotes through this site, a pay-per-lead network may pay us a referral fee for connecting you. It never changes the price you pay, and it never affects the numbers we publish.
How the model works
We make money one way: pay-per-lead affiliate networks. Here's the whole mechanism, plainly:
- Our articles are free and carry no paywall.
- On many pages you can ask to be matched with local New Jersey pros for your project.
- When you submit that request, a lead-generation network — not us — routes it to contractors in your area.
- If the network accepts that request, it pays us a referral fee for sending it. That's our revenue.
This is standard affiliate advertising, disclosed up front. We'd rather tell you exactly how the site is paid for than bury it.
What it does not change
- Your price. Requesting quotes through us costs you nothing and doesn't raise what a contractor charges you. The referral fee is paid by the network, not added to your bill.
- Our numbers. The prices, ranges and permit facts on this site come from our sourced, dated methodology — full stop. No contractor and no network can pay to change a figure, move a range, or get a better write-up. Advertising money and editorial numbers are kept separate.
- What we tell you. We'll say when a project is expensive, when a low bid is skipping base work, or when you might not need to hire at all. Being funded by referrals doesn't buy us a reason to push you toward hiring.
What we're honest about
- We don't personally vet the pros. When you request quotes, a lead network matches you with contractors. We don't hand-inspect, license-check or endorse those specific pros beyond what the network does — so treat matched quotes as a starting point, and vet each contractor yourself.
- We only work with lead networks — never direct contractor deals. We don't sell placement to individual contractors and we don't take money to feature one company over another. Our income comes from networks routing quote requests, not from paid listings.
- The quote form is optional. You can use every cost guide, table and calculator on this site and never request a single quote. The information is the product; the referral is only there if you want it.

Where the numbers come from
Our revenue and our pricing are two separate things. Every figure on this site is compiled from published NJ sources with a source and a checked-date — see how we get these numbers — and learn more about who runs the site.
